One of the defining features of a top-tier research university is the availability of core facilities that provide a spectrum of contemporary analytic tools that can be shared across the campus. Ideally these cores provide both technical and consultative services at modest cost and, as a result, elevate the quality of the overall research enterprise. It is appropriate that the core landscape evolves as new technologies emerge and others become obsolete.

Below is a list of the current operational research cores supported by the School of Medicine and the research leadership on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Animal Imaging Shared Resource (AISR) at the CU Cancer Center

The major goal of the animal imaging and irradiation program is the establishment of novel imaging and radiation treatment approaches to cancer, inflammation, developmental therapeutics using animal models and imaging endpoints.

Anschutz Center for Microbiome Excellence (ACME)

ACME, in conjunction with the Lozupone Research Lab, provides a myriad of services in molecular microbiology and bacteriology.

Autoantibody/HLA Core Facility

The BDC Autoantibody/HLA Core Facility is a CLIA and CAP certified laboratory and has been designated as a NIH/NIDDK North America Autoantibody/HLA Core Laboratory for two decades offering services to national and international type1 diabetes clinical trials.

Biostatistics & Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) at the CU Cancer Center

The University of Colorado Cancer Center Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBSR) supports cancer-related research and other shared resources by providing biostatistical and bioinformatic expertise and support services for all stages of laboratory-based research projects, experimental therapeutic studies, population sciences research, bioinformatics studies, and clinical trials.

Cardiovascular Bioimaging Core: CTRC Outpatient Clinic

Our mission is disease agnostic, and we conduct many mechanistic studies with healthy controls.

CCTSI Clinical Research Core: Adult CTRC Core Laboratory

Our team supports investigator-initiated studies, including multi-center NIH studies, and industry-initiated protocols. All services are provided as fee-for-service with federally-funded studies receiving subsidized rates.

CCTSI Clinical Research Core: Clinical Research Support Services (CReST)

CReST is a team of experienced study coordinators, regulatory, and administrative staff available to assist with clinical research study start-up, implementation, and closeout.

CCTSI Clinical Research Core: CTRC Nutrition Services

The Nutrition Core consists of scientists, registered dietitians, and food service professionals with extensive experience in nutrition and metabolism research.

Cell Technologies Shared Resource (CTSR)

The Cell Technologies Shared Resource, formerly the Protein Production, Monoclonal Antibody, Tissue Culture Shared Resource, supports basic and translational research at CU Cancer Center Members with a variety of services.

Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA)

The Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) offers comprehensive collaboration from study design to statistical and data science analytics.

Drug Discovery and Development Shared Resource (D3SR) at the CU Cancer Center

The mission of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU AMC) Drug Discovery and Development Shared Resource (D3SR) is to provide expertise and infrastructure to facilitate drug discovery at different stages of the development pipeline, including assay development and validation, high-throughput screening (HTS) and image-based high-content screening (HCS) discovery, hit-to-lead validation and optimization, and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology including pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) as well as toxicology

Functional Genomics Shared Resource (FGSR) at the CU Cancer Center

The Histology Core provides investigators and their research teams with the tools, knowledge, and technical expertise needed to process and analyze their tissue samples.

Gates Institute: Stem Cell Biobanking & Disease Modeling Core (SCB&DM)

The Stem Cell Biobank and Disease Modeling Core (SCB&DM core) offers complete services related to the production of high quality human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patient-derived somatic cells and genetic engineering of iPSCs.

Genetically Engineered Murine Models (GEMM) Core

GEMM provides full-service mouse genetic engineering support to researchers. We will help you select the best model for your research program, design and build any constructs and reagents, and produce live mouse models.

Genomics and Microarray Shared Resource (GSR) at the CU Cancer Center

Gnotobiotic Core

The University of Colorado Anschutz Gnotobiotic Core provides investigators germ free (axenic/sterile) and gnotobiotic (flora-defined) mice.

HI3 Cores: Human Immune Monitoring Shared Resource (HIMSR)

Neurotechnology Center (NTC): Advanced Light Microscopy Core (ALMC)

The Advanced Light Microscopy Core (ALMC) is a user facility that serves the Anschutz Medical Campus scientific community by offering a wide variety of microscopy imaging techniques, from confocal imaging to super-resolution microscopy, to whole organ cleared tissue imaging.

Neurotechnology Center (NTC): Animal Behavior Core

The Animal Behavior Core provides investigators with access to high-quality behavioral testing equipment for mice and rats as well as consultation in all steps (from planning to publishing) of behavioral studies.

Neurotechnology Center (NTC): In Vivo Neurophysiology (EEG)

The In vivo neurophysiology (EEG) core provides equipment, facilities, consultation, and technical expertise for carrying out in vivo neurophysiology experiments such as continuous (24/7) rodent behavioral (video) and neurophysiological/EEG monitoring and stereotaxic guided brain surgery.

Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC): Clinical Intervention and Translation (CIT) Core

This core provides a clinical infrastructure and expertise for studies of weight loss, weight loss maintenance and behavioral interventions, which makes substantial contributions to the scientific underpinnings to the national agenda to address the problem of obesity.

Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC): Energy Balance Assessment (EBA) Core

The EBA Core provides support for the measurement of components of energy balance (e.g., energy expenditure and intake) and for assessing consequences of alterations in energy balance (e.g., body composition, substrate oxidation).
